Economic aspects of environmental use of building materials based on secondary raw materials.
Ťažký, Tomáš ; Durica,, Tibor (referee) ; Sedlmajer, Martin (referee) ; Nosek,, Karel (referee) ; Kulísek, Karel (advisor)
The disses thesis is focused on usage of secondary raw materials from the electric power industry, specifically fly ash as a component for the building industry, concentrated on concrete. Two main streams are covered, environmental and economical. Reasons, which led to focus on the selected subject are coming mainly from the scarcity and availability of high-quality mineral resources, environmental pressure for usage of industry byproduct, reducing emissions and economical pressure to reduce production cost, especially raw materials. The main purpose of the work was to verify the possibility of increasing the usability of fly ash as a mineral additive in the technology of concrete production with materials retrieved from coal fired power plants and applying mechanical activation of fly ash. The main goal of the experimental part of work was to demonstrate improvement of fresh and hardened concrete properties as a main condition to support economic efficiency of mechanical activated fly ash. Base on previous facts the methodology was covering two main areas, the experimental and the assessment. Relatively large sets of tests were performed, using a wide range of tested high temperature fly ash and fluidized bed combustion fly ash granulometrically treated, by mixing and grinding. Results of the testing confirmed focused parameters for concrete and mortar mechanical properties, total economical efficiency of the targeted solution and the subject of the dissertation. In the experiment section has been retrieved valuable findings contributing to the overall knowledge of the faculty, also for the practical application. The results of the tests confirmed the achievement of the planned target parameters, both in terms of physical and mechanical properties of experienced mortars and concretes, as well as the overall economic efficiency of the proposed design and the topic of the disses thesis. Within the experimental work, valuable professional knowledge and benefits w
Engineering solutions for mitigation of climate change - methods applicable at the source of greenhouse gases
Remeková, Valentína ; Jedelský, Jan (referee) ; Lízal, František (advisor)
This work aimed to produce a research study on the topic of engineering solutions designed to mitigate climate change and which are applicable at the source of greenhouse gases. The first part outlines the fundamental matters of climate change. The second part focuses on technologies CCS (Carbon capture and storage) which capture and sequester carbon dioxide and possible options for separating CO2 from flue gases. The third chapter describes technologies CCU (Carbon capture and utilization) that use captured carbon as a product for further use. The future of these technologies and other abatement methods are addressed in the following section. The financial aspects of solutions for climate change mitigation are discussed in chapter five. The last part summarizes the main advantages, disadvantages, findings, and limitations of research.

Assesment of the Environmental Impact in the Design of Production Machines in Terms of Greenhouse Gas Emissions of Selected
Krbalová, Maria ; Pačaiová,, Hana (referee) ; Demeč, Peter (referee) ; Blecha, Petr (advisor)
The presented doctoral thesis is focused on environmental impact assessment of basic engineering materials used in a production machine construction. Ecological profile of the machine itself develops already in the phase of its design. It is not only about the choice of future machine parameters and materials that it is built from, but also about technologies used for its manufacture and operation conditions of the finished machine (consumption of energy and service fluids). The thesis occupies in detail with environmental impact analysis of the production machine design from the viewpoint of material production that mentioned machine consists of. The output from the performed analysis is methodology for evaluating of machine design from the viewpoint of greenhouse gas emissions. Created methodology enables evaluating of machine ecological profile and its possible adjustments even during pre-production stage. In the first part of the thesis the analysis of current legislation in the field of fighting against climate changes, reducing of products energy consumption and increasing of production machines energy efficiency is presented. Also in this part of the thesis description of methods that were used to achieve thesis goals is stated. Furthermore analysis of production machine as a system of structural components that fulfil the certain functions and description of used basic engineering materials are presented. The second part of the thesis is devoted to environmental impact analysis of the production machine design process. There the design process and environmental impact of machine design are described. This is followed by description of production machine life cycle and detailed analysis of undesirable substances emissions emitted during pre-production phases of machine life cycle (i.e. during the raw materials extraction and materials production). From this analysis the particular constituents’ pre-production phases which are sources of undesirable substances emissions (e.g. greenhouse gas emissions) were derived. The thesis also includes analysis of these constituents’ life cycles and description of electric power generation as a basic constituent of any phase of product life cycle. In this part of the thesis calculations of particular fuel type’s amounts that is required to produce 1 MWh of electric power and carbon dioxide amount produced during electric power generation are presented. The third part of the thesis contains created models of manufacturing processes of basic engineering materials and calculations of related emissions of selected greenhouse gases. The practical output from this part of the thesis is methodology that enables environmental impact assessment of machine design from the viewpoint of engineering materials used in its construction.
Measurement of greenhouse gas concentrations
Dohnal, Jan ; Novák, Vítězslav (referee) ; Bača, Petr (advisor)
This semester thesis deals with the greenhouse effect, various gases and methods of measurement. On the greenhouse effect is viewed from its historical dating, despite changes in atmospheric composition and reactions of individual institutions. It contains a theoretical analysis of the individual gases. It focuses on the most harmful greenhouse gases such as water vapor, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, methane, ozone, chlorofluorocarbons and halons. Analysis methods for detection of gaseous substances. Part of this work is focus on the detection of nitrogen dioxide and chloro-fluorocarbon. The data is processed using a microcontroller and then sent to an Internet server thingspeak.com. If the device proves successful, will be used as a laboratory exercise in the course Ecology in electronics.

Determination of active emissions of electric cars
Kaštánek, Petr ; Bayer, Robert (referee) ; Jaššo, Kamil (advisor)
This diploma thesis deals with the ecology of vehicles with combustion engines and electric motors, both in terms of operation and in terms of production of fuel or electricity. A closer focus is on active and passive emissions of cars with combustion and electric engines. Emission sources, their reduction options and measurement methods for their determination in the production of WLTP and NEDC cars are discussed. Non-exhaust emissions are discussed in detail. Furthermore, a measuring device based on the Arduino microcontroller is designed. This device is then used to measure solid particles from tires and brakes when operating vehicles with internal combustion engines and electric motors.

Study of the ecology of electric vehicle
Varhaník, Jiří ; Jandová, Kristýna (referee) ; Jaššo, Kamil (advisor)
The first chapter of this bachelor's thesis describes the history of electric cars, their origin, success and decline at the time. The following chapter deals with the clarification of the carbon footprint with regard to the connection to other chapters in the field of ecology of passenger cars. The main goal of this thesis was to study the issues related to the ecology of passenger cars with a focus on electric vehicles in the Czech Republic. The~ecology of vehicles covers all periods of the car's life-cycle, starting with the production, following with utilization, final disposal and recycling of the vehicle. Another goal was to select and describe a suitable methodology for calculating the environmental impact of these vehicles. In the practical part, the relations and calculation methodologies were determined, data sources for individual parameters of these relations were obtained and the calculations were performed. The last part was about processing the obtained data into equations, tables and graphs.
